Story Line

Armin Scheiderbauer was drafted in 1941 and served as an infantry officer with the German Army’s 252nd Infantry Division on the Eastern Front. He fought for four years in some of the harshest campaigns of the war and was wounded six times, eventually reaching the rank of Oberleutnant and receiving several decorations before being captured by Soviet forces in 1945 and released in 1947. The audiobook is narrated by James A. Gillies and published by Tantor Audio.

Adventures in My Youth: A German Soldier on the Eastern Front 1941–45 is a non‑fiction wartime memoir and personal history. Written originally only for his daughter and published decades later, it offers a candid, thoughtful account of daily life and combat as seen by a young German officer on the Eastern Front. Scheiderbauer describes training, front-line routines, major Soviet offensives, repeated wounds, and the final collapse in East Prussia, culminating in his capture and years as a prisoner. The tone is reflective rather than boastful, providing valuable insight into the mindset, motivations, fears, and disillusionment of a front-line soldier serving in a destructive and ultimately doomed campaign.
